Cape Clear Island – Oileán Chléire is Ireland’s most southerly island and is only a 45-minute boat trip with Cape Clear Ferries from the beautiful villages of Baltimore or Schull in West Cork.

Cape Clear Ferries are the largest and most comfortable ferries operating this route where you can enjoy comfortable coach-style seating in the warm indoors for up to 95 people, depending on the ferry. There are viewing decks on board with plenty of space to move around, catch all the spectacular views and capture some memories on film.

Things you should know before you set sail

  • Ferries are for passengers only. Cars are not permitted when visiting Cape Clear Island.  
  • Bicycles and kayaks are permitted on board at a cost of €2 per item. Please contact Cape Clear Ferries in advance to book your space.  
  • As the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse is located in open water, sea conditions can be choppy at times. Once you book a Fastnet tour, all sailings are confirmed 72-48 hours in advance. In the unusual event that your sailing has to be cancelled due to weather, you will be offered another sailing or your money back.
  • Allow adequate time for parking in both Schull and Baltimore during busy holiday seasons. We recommend at least 30 minutes. 
  • We recommend you wear several light layers to be ready for Ireland’s famous changeable weather – don’t forget the sun cream and the camera!  
  • Life jackets are stored on board for each passenger but are only to be worn in case of an emergency.  
  • Our ferries are all dog-friendly – as long as they are on a suitable lead and are kept outdoors during sailing. 
  • Toilets are on board all ferries.  
  • Once you arrive on the island, an electric bus meets each ferry and, for a small charge, will bring you to any destination on Cape Clear Island. However, you do need to book ahead directly with the bus company by calling Bus Cléire on +353 86 3836759.

Parking

Arrive early to give plenty of time for parking and we will be boarding 15 minutes before departure.

  • No parking on the piers.
  • There is free parking in Baltimore and Schull villages, but please beware that it get very busy during peak season so allow adequate time.
  • Buggy friendly.
